Our Story

Denny’s is the largest full-service family restaurant chain in the United States. It operates more than 2,500 restaurants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines, among others. Denny’s is known for being open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert at any hour.

Denny’s was founded as Denny’s Donuts in 1953 by Harold Butler in Lakewood, California. Butler grew it to 20 restaurants by 1959, when he renamed the chain Denny’s. The business kept growing, and by 1981 there were more than 1,000 restaurants across all 50 U.S. states. In 1977 Denny’s introduced the still-popular Grand Slam Breakfast.

The story of Grupo Comidas and Denny’s began in 2009, when the group acquired the franchise rights for Central America and Panama. The first Denny’s in the region opened in Tegucigalpa in 2010. The brand was very well received, which has allowed new restaurants to open in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
